***Don’t forget*** Parents meeting for all parents of Cub Scouts going to JamOige on this Wednesday 22nd February at 8pm in the John Slye Scout Hall. Please make sure that at least one parent attends and no cub scouts please!
A host of beavers, cubs, scouts, venturers, rovers, leaders and parents descended on City Hall on Tuesday 10th January for a reception hosted by Lord Mayor Terry Shannon.
We were greeted in the council chamber where the Lord Mayor welcomed us. The Lord Mayor then took us through the many treasures on display in his offices in two groups.
Conor is seen below signing the visitors book which will go to the City Archives at the end of the Lord Mayor’s tenure. Click on the thumbnails to get a larger version.

Here are the beavers and cubs getting a tour with a very patient Lord Mayor.
And finally all of us! Go Douglas!

The Lord Mayor is to honour members of the Douglas Scout Group with a reception in City Hall Cork on January 10th 2012 celebrating 60 years of Scouting in Douglas.
All members are invited and a family member can join then if they wish. We must confirm with the mayors office the numbers going to attend.
All members are asked to make contact with their section leader or the Group Leader to confirm they are going before Friday December 30th

Hi All!
Well the past month has been very busy for Douglas’ Cub Scouts.
On the 18th of November the 2 Cub sections attended the annual County Cub Quiz in Frankfield Scout hall. 2 teams represented the 47th Cork & 1 team represented the 6th Cork. All 3 teams did really well and did the group proud!
On the 25th November we held a joint overnight in the hall. 31 scouts attended this activity making it the biggest one so far! The scouts played lots of games & watched “Santa Claus The Movie” on the Friday evening. When they woke on Saturday morning they had the option of sausages or cereal for breakfast! After breakfast they played some more games and helped tidy up the hall. It was a fantastic event and allowed both sections to get to know each other.
On Tuesday the 6th December the Cub Scouts attended the Annual County Gift Mass in Frankfield. Each scout & scouter brought a wrapped gift to the Mass & these gifts will be given to children less well off this Christmas. This was attended by all sections from Beaver Scouts right up to Rover Scouts and involved all groups of the Cork South County. It was a great event and was a nice way to spread the Christmas spirit.
Our next event will be on Saturday when we take the 2 Cub Sections to visit Santa. This event is only open to those who pre-booked their places last week. This will take place at Delany’s GAA Club in Dublin Hill. Directions to the Kilbarry Enterpise Centre which is near Delany’s GAA Club can be found using this link. Copy and paste it in to a new window to see a map & directions.

Once you reach this point the event should be signposted.
As always please do not hesitate to contact any of the leaders if you have any questions.
Vickie & Wendy
In keeping with tradition members of the Douglas Scout Group members will join the rest of the Cork South County Scout Groups on Tuesday December 6th in The Church of the Incarnation, Frankfield Grange to celebrate Christmas and bring along a gift for a less well off child.
Each Beaver Scout, Cub Scout, Scout, Venture Scout, Rover Scout and adult scouter is asked to bring along a toy or gift, wrapped and marked Boy/Girl and age suitable. The gifts will be collected during the service and will be later on handed out to various charities and good causes for children less well off this Christmas.
The mass starts at 7:30 and all members of Scouting are asked to assemble in front of the church at 7:15 in full and perfect uniform. Parents, friends and families are invited to celebrate with us.
If you have any questions please contact your section leader
Don’t forget that Douglas Scouts are selling their 12 Days of Christmas raffle tickets in Douglas Village Shopping Centre from 11am to 6pm! Please drop in & support us if your in the area either by helping man the stands or buy a raffle ticket!
Hi all,
You can download a consent form that needs to be filled out for every youth member and handed back to their Leader immediately.
You can email it or print it off yourself and bring it down to the next meeting.
YiS,
Darran.
Hi There,
As lots of you know, we have a waiting list for both our Cubs sections, and a substantial waiting list for your Beaver Colony. We ARE working on ways to sort this.
In the meantime, if you’d like to add your childs name to any of these lists, please do so here:
Douglas Scouts are bag packing in Dunnes Stores, Douglas Court on Friday Sept 2nd (6-9) and Saturday Sept 3rd (10-6) and we need your assistance. Bag Packers must be aged 14 and over so we’ll be relying on our Scouts, Ventures, Rovers and Parents for this one!!
Full Uniform must be worn for members and we’ll supply kneckerchiefs for parents/helpers on the day.
Please contact your section leader as soon as possible and lend us some of your time. Can you spare two hours on Friday/Saturday, it would be appreciated
Yours In Scouting
Conor Crowley
Group Leader
