Friday 26th… Traffic Caution

Posted by Conor Crowley | Posted in 47th Cubs, 47th Scouts, 93rd Beavers, 93rd Cubs | Posted on 23-02-2016

This Friday, as I’m sure you’re well aware, is the General Election and St. Lukes Primary School is one of the polling stations in the area.

We are asking you take extra caution when dropping your child off and collecting them for Beavers, Cubs & Scouts either at The John Slye Scout Hall or The Canon Packham Hall.

The gates of the school will be fully open and the church/Scout Hall carpark will no doubt be busy around there times with people returning from work and placing their vote on the way home or going for last minute voting.

93rd Cork Beaver Scouts – Mid term break

Posted by Admin | Posted in 93rd Beavers | Posted on 16-02-2016

Please be advised that there is NO BEAVER scout meeting this coming Friday at 6pm as we are taking a night off for the mid term break.

We certainly had a great night last Friday in the FOTA Scout Centre and we hope your kids did too.

Keep an eye on our social media and website as we hope to announce our next Beaver Scout activity very shortly

93rd Cork – Alternative meeting on February 12th

Posted by Conor Crowley | Posted in 93rd Beavers, 93rd Cubs | Posted on 10-02-2016

As the Canon Packham Hall is not available for our use on February 12th we’re holding an alternative meeting and bringing the Beavers and Cubs to the Fota Scout Centre for a campfire evening.

We will get the train down and back to the scout centre.

The train will DEPART Kent Station, Cork at 18:30 so at the very latest you need to assemble at Kent Station at 18:10

We’ll be back again in Kent Station at 20:54.

There’ll be no need to wear their uniform at this event but MUST be wearing their neckerchief or the Beavers and Cubs will not be permitted to travel on the train with us.

Tickets have been purchased so you must have informed your leader at this stage that you were going

Mount Melleray Weekend – Parking System

Hi There,

For the Mount Melleray Weekend, we’re trying to make things easier for all!  With the numbers travelling, departure and arrival becomes more complex all the time.  In an effort at having an easy life, can we suggest that people would park on the LEFT side of the car park in FrankField only?  This will leave the right side free for the coaches.

Further details will be posted soon with more information, times etc.

FField Parking

Thanks in advance for your help!

Seasons Greetings to you all

On behalf of the Group Council, the Section Leaders and all our active Scouters I would like to wish you and your families and very happy and peaceful Christmas.

Our scouting has come to an end for the calendar year of our 2015 and we have had another fantastic 12 months here in the Douglas & St. FinBarres Scout Group.

A brilliant summer camp in Cavan for our Scouts and Ventures last July and looking forward to what promises to be an unbelievable experience next July in Austria.

Our newest sections, the 93rd Cork Beaver Colony and 93rd Cork Cub Scout Pack are now up and running and will continue to grow and learn and bring Scouting to many more kids in our parish and from further afield.

Thank you to the work of our Parents & Friends Committee for their efforts in 2015. Many thanks to the parents of our youth members who encourage their kids and bring them to the many varied activities we offer.

Most importantly thank you and seasons greetings to all our youth members; From our eldest Venture Scout to our youngest Beaver Scout we hope that 2016 will be as much of an adventure for you as 2015 has

SUPPORTING SCOUTING IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Over the last week our sections have been given their batches of their 12 Days of Christmas Draw tickets. These tickets are Scouting Irelands annual fundraiser. All proceeds go to support local scouting and the development of Scouting Ireland national campsites.

Tickets are €2 each and each family is given a book of 20 tickets. If you require additional tickets please speak with your section leader to arrange them; additional books will be issued once a full sold book has been returned.

Our Parents & Friends Committee are coordinating this years tickets distribution and organisation. In order to return the tickets back to SI National Office in time for the draw we are requesting that ALL books of tickets (sold or unsold) must be returned to the Scout Hall on Friday December 4th at the latest

Best of luck and thank you for your support

93rd Cork (Beaver and Cub Scout sections) – Message to all our new Beaver Scout and Cub Scout parents

Posted by Conor Crowley | Posted in 93rd Beavers, 93rd Cubs | Posted on 19-11-2015

We are now 4 weeks into the new sections set up in our Group. The 93rd Cork Beaver Scouts (6pm-7pm) and the 93rd Cork Cub Scouts (7pm-8:30pm) and I hope the Scout in your life is enjoying themselves so far.

As not everyone has sent back their consent forms I don’t have email contact for everyone so if you know of another parent in the group you might pass this email on so that we might get this message out to all our new members.

Firstly – Please remember the activities consent form that should and must be completed for each member of the group. Failure to do so leaves your child uninsured in our care and will not be permitted to attend any activities as a result. If you have not done so then please print this off and bring it to your next meeting.

Beaver Scout News
I hope you have seen the notice, posted on our website on the 10th and more details on the 16th, about our sleepover tomorrow night (Nov 20th). Please read this notice if you have not already done so and confirm your childs place by email.

https://douglasscouts.ie/upcoming-beaver-scout-eventsactivities/

https://douglasscouts.ie/beaver-scout-sleepover-2nd-93rd-cork-november-20th/

I would encourage every Beaver Scout to attend, it’s a great experience and to get this first overnight done is a big milestone for your Scout. This also allows them come away on the Group trip to Mount Melleray in January. Details of this trip are again on our website. Please read this link if you have not already done so

Cub Scout News
We are going to join our fellow Douglas & St. FinBarres Cub Scouts (47th Cork) on a night trip to the Blackrock Castle Observatory tomorrow night (Nov 20th) for a tour and some star gazing (weather permitting)

Details are as follows:
Meeting at the gates to the Blackrock Castle Observatory for 5:45pm and to be collected again at 8pm; Cost is €10 per Scout payable on the night. Neckerchief to be worn

While this is short notice it should be a great evening for the Cub Scouts to enjoy

Similar to the Beaver Scouts we will be planning an overnight on Saturday December 12th – Keep an eye on the website for full details. Again I’m encouraging everyone to attend as it’s a great experience and to get this first overnight done is a big milestone for your Scout. This also allows them come away on the Group trip to Mount Melleray in January. Details of this trip are again on our website. Please read this link if you have not already done so

https://douglasscouts.ie/group-weekend-to-mount-melleray-scout-centre/

Thats all for now – I’d ask you to keep up with all our groups news through our social media sites,facebook.com/DouglasScouts and twitter.com/DouglasScouts and also an idea to register for alerts from our website so you’ll miss out on none of our news

I hope to meet you all very soon at some activity

As a result of these two activities tomorrow night there is NO Beaver Scout or Cub Scout meeting taking place in the Canon Packham Hall tomorrow night (November 20th)

Neckerchief is now available in the Scout Shop on 23-24 Paul St. The 93rd Cork is green with a red border www.thescoutshop.ie
