After quite a while, we’re now in a position to open our waiting list!
Can we stress that this is a waiting list! We have some very limited vacancies in some of our sections, but for most, it’ll be the list.
We are accepting no submissions for people under the age of 5!!! If you apply for a child that is less than 5 years old, they will NOT be added to the waiting list. The entry will be deleted.

We are very excited to announce that for our summer Cub Camp 2019 we will be attending the Larch Hill Cub Camp in Larch Hill Scout Camp Site from May 31st to June 3rd.
This weekend is a national event attended by 800 Cub Scouts and the Cub Scouts get to do some amazing activities as well as meet lots of new friends!
The Cub camp is themed (TBA) and over the weekend your Cub Scout will see fireworks, take part in one of the biggest campfires, make crafts and do lots of fun activities!
The Cub Scouts attended this event last summer and it will in fact be the 5th time in recent years that Douglas and St FinBarre’s Cub Scouts will attend the camp!
We expect the cost to be somewhere between €135 and €150 depending on how many are coming. The more that travel the lower the cost. This price includes transport by bus, food and all activities and souvenirs while at the camp site.
In order to make sure that each Cub section has a fair chance to attend the camp we are allocating a total of 12 spaces to each of the 4 sections.
In order to secure a place at camp we request that you email your section leader to put your Cub Scouts name down and a €30 non-refundable deposit to be paid to your Cub Scouts leader by December 21st.
Your Cub Scouts place will not be secured until the deposit is received by their leader.
Once we confirm the price in January we will be operating a staged system of payments as follows:
- Deposit by December 21st 2018
- Payment of next €60 by March 1st
- Payment of balance by May 3rd
Places are allocated on a first come first serve basis and should more than 12 from one section wish to come we will have a waiting list in place. Anyone on the waiting list who is not successful will get their deposit back after March 1st.
We are planning a hike up Galtymore mountain for interested cubs. As this will be quite a challenging hike – we expect to be on the Galtees for 6 to 7 hours – this activity is best suited to physically active cubs, most likely cubs in their 3rd year, with an interest in hill walking. The hike is planned for Sunday, December 2nd and we welcome any parents who wish to join us. Expected cost per cub is €5 to cover petrol, tolls etc. We will start early, leaving Douglas at 7am due to the shorter daylight hours. To take part your cub will need hiking boots, hiking trousers (no jeans or cotton tracksuits!), rain gear (jacket with hood, trousers), head light/torch plus a suitable bag to carry this and food. Should your cub be interested, please contact your cub’s leader so that we can get a rough idea about numbers. More information will follow closer to the day.
The Group will hold it’s AGM on Thursday November 29th at 8pm in the John Slye Scout Hall on Churchyard Lane.
We encourage parents to attend this meeting which will give an update on all aspects of the Group including activities, leadership, financial and plans for 2019
Scouts, Ventures & Rovers are also welcome to this meeting in full uniform. All adult members of our Group are asked to be present in full uniform also.
Light refreshments will be served. To allow us prepare for approx. numbers that will be in the hall will you please let your section Leader know if you’ll be able to join us.

We meet at 9am at the scout hall, please ensure that your cub had a good breakfast – as it might be a while before lunch.
For parents helping with the transport – here are the directions to King’s Yard:
- Take exit 12 (Mitchelstown, Kilbehenny) from the M8
- Follow the signs for R693 Kilbehenny
- We will regroup in Kilbehenny, there’s a post office on your left as you enter Kilbehenny, there’s parking opposite it – we will wait there
- From Kilbehenny keep following R693, about 500meters after leaving Kilbehenny, turn left (there’s a brown sign saying ‘King’s Yard’ – blink and you’ll miss it
- Follow that road, after about 800meters is another sign for King’s Yard – follow the sign and turn half right here
- Follow this quite narrow road (stay on the tarmaced road, don’t take the left turn for that gravel road half way) with great caution till you finally hit Kings Yard
We aim to be in King’s Yard around 10ish.
If you haven’t payed yet please bring the €20 with you to the scout hall – same goes for the consent form.

6th cubs are heading for the Galtee Mountains with an overnight camp at King’s Yard. The plan is to go on a 5k loop walk followed by lunch and then set up camp, games, shelter building, nature treasure hunt … (plan subject to change depending on weather conditions)
Date: 29th – 30th September
Cost: €20 to cover camp site fee and food
Meeting Time: Meet on Saturday morning at 9am outside scout hall. Returning back at 12noon on Sunday, expect to be back at scout hall at aprox 1pm.
Transport: Parent Car pool
Directions: Directions to King’s Yard will be provided on Saturday morning, we will also have a rendevouz point in order to regroup before the last leg. Arrive at Kings’s Yard by 10am.
Note:
1. Your cub can only come along if we have received the signed consent form. Without the form we can not bring your cub on the trip.
2. Ensure your cub scout has a good breakfast on Saturday morning, and provide them with a healthy packed lunch.

- Cup, bowl, plate plus cuttlery
- Line with a seperate large bin bag

With the new Scouting year comes the annual registration fee, which covers national insurance, registration with Scouting Ireland and the balance goes towards the ongoing upkeep of our hall and support to our Group.
This year registration fees are as follows:
€140 for one youth member. €260 for TWO youth members from the same family and €360 for THREE youth members or more from the same family.
All registration fees are payable online using easypaymentsplus.com. There is NO charge or cost for using this service.
We are asked that all payments of registration this year are completed by Sunday September 30th.
In addition to the registration fee, all members must have their activity consent form signed by a parent and submitted to their Scouter to allow them take part in any activity and remain at the weekly meetings.

You can fill it in and print it off yourself and bring it down to the next meeting.
