Earlier tonight we announced the location and some details for Camp 2024 and in this post we’ll give you as much information we can.

Where: Adelboden, Switzerland

When: 5th to 19th July 2024

How Much: €1150
This will, as ever, include everything. ALL travel, meals, activities, admissions etc. are included. The only thing spending money will be needed for is presents or souvenirs to bring home.

What to do next? Secure your place by paying the deposit via Easypaymentsplus.
We need a €200 deposit (non-refundable). This will be followed by instalments due between now and the start of June.

Booking will open on easypayments at 8pm on Sunday. (22nd Oct).
This deposit is unfortunately non-refundable as we’re already spending money with deposits on activities, accommodation, ferries etc.

What is in the Adelboden area?
Adelboden is a stunningly pretty, picturesque mountain village. Mountain views everywhere!

During the winter it’s a prime skiing location. In the summer it’s a beautiful area for all sorts of hiking, mountain treks, and has lot’s of fab activities! The town itself has everything. Supermarket, health centre, banks, souvenir shops, a popular outdoor heated swimming pool etc. The area has tremendous scope for a fabulous summer camp for us!

We were last here in 2019 so we know the area and what’s on offer.

We are pleased to announce Summer Camp 2023 will be to Swansea, Wales

Where: Silvercross Scout Campsite, Llangyfelach, Swansea, Wales
When: Departing on June29th and returning on July 8th
How will we get there: We will travel by bus from Douglas to Rosslare and then the ferry from Rosslare to Wales and a train into Swansea City and onwards to the campsite
Cost: €600 per youth member

The site is made up of 15 acres of deciduous woodland, bordered by the small river Llan, and has been a scout campsite since 1951. This will be the 6th time the Group has camped at this site.

Onsite activities include Archery, Air-rifle Shooting, Tomahawk Throwing, Soft Crossbows, Pioneering, Orienteering and much more.

Offsite activities include swimming, coastal adventures, Museums and Swansea City centre itself.

Camp is open to all members of our Scout Troops and Venture Crew

What happens now?
To secure your place you must put down a €150 non-refundable deposit by February 12th.
You need to pay this via the Easypaymentsplus system. This is non-refundable as it will be used to secure activities and a place on the ferry for travel.

Lough Dan Scout Centre

Each Scout section (Beavers 6-8, Cubs 9-11, Scouts 12-14, Ventures 15-17) run over 3 years, with 8 for Rovers 18-26. During the final year of their section a Beaver, Cub, Scout and Venture can participate in the Chief Scout Award (CSA) programme. The Rover award programme is longer.

A Scout, Venture or Rover undertaking their CSA are also eligible to apply for the Gaisce award. The tasks for both award programmes are very similar.

The Gaisce programme is structured in levels as follows:

Bronze for final year Scouts
Silver for final year Ventures
Gold for Rovers

As the scout progresses through their age sections the effort required to complete tasks to attain their awards will naturally increase and should reflect the skills they’ve learned over the previous 3 years.

If your Beaver, Cub, Scout or Venture has an interest in undertaking the CSA awards programme you and they should speak with their section leaders to discuss the committment they’ll need to make to achieve their award and how they can achieve each milestone of the programme.

If you’re a Rover speak with the GL and they’ll put you in contact with the Groups PAL.

The group have organised an activity day in Cuskinny Court activity centre for all our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures.

Activities will include archery, climbing wall, grass sledging, zipline, squirel trail, forest maze, some activities have an age limit. We will also have a combined age games event, so lets hope the leaders can keep up!!

Gear to bring:

• Knapsack lined with a bin bag.
• Rain gear (coat and waterproof pull-ups)

• Old clothes
• A change of clothes and shoes

• A compass, if they have one.

Mobile Devices: Leaders will not take responsibility for any devices brought to the event and there are no charging points at the centre.

Dear Scouts & Parents,

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New year as best you could given the circumstances. 

Since our last update before Christmas a lot has changed and the situation with Covid19 continues to develop and unfortunately escalate around the world. 

Following todays announcement by Scouting Ireland all Douglas & St. FinBarres Scout Group indoor meetings and outdoor activities are suspended until further notice and our return to regular Scouting is going to take longer than expected. 

The leadership team are however looking into the possibility of running virtual meetings or virtual activities where possible.

The constant negative news articles and the waiting to hear the daily numbers are putting a huge amount of pressure on everyone but there is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccines beginning to roll out and we will look back on this eventually and know we came together by staying apart.

As we watch the flames of 2020 fade away we wish all our members, scouters, family and friends a very Happy New Year and welcome 2021 with a renewed spirit.

Scouting certainly didn’t go the way we expected in 2020, some sections did manage a few local activities and even a few online meetings.

Thank you to our members for continuing to show us your support. Thank you to all our Scouters for doing what you could in running activities and online meetings.

Roll on 2021 where we’re sure we’ll meet around a campfire once more!

2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone and for Scouting it has been no different.

We hope to return to Scouting of some form shortly and continue on in January for all our sections. This of course can change and will depend on Government, HSE and Scouting Ireland guidelines.

The Group Secretary sent out an email to all our parents on Monday last to ask for confirmation if your child will be returning to Scouting with us so we can plan for the coming months.

We would appreciate it if you could let us know by replying to dsfgroupsecretary@douglasscouts.ie as soon as possible and if you could please mention your childs name and the section they are in when replying we would appreciate it.

If your child does not currently wish to return but changes their mind in the future we will of course welcome them back.

Since our Return to Scouting was published back in August the situation with Covid19 continues to develop and unfortunately escalate around the world. It is up to each Group to do what they feel is safe and in keeping with the various Government, HSE and Scouting Ireland regulations.

We have taken a decision to suspend all indoor meetings and outdoor activities until further notice. At this time, with the rise in numbers around the world, across the country and here in Cork we feel we should do our part and play it safe for the health of our Youth Members, our Scouters and our Community.

We want to thank you all for what you are doing, especially those of you who were able to take part in an activity or either an indoor or outdoor meeting since we got back to Scouting and we are sorry that we have to pause this journey again.

Our sections will look into the possibility of running some virtual meetings or maybe virtual activities and will let you know in due course. We will look back on this eventually and know we came together by staying apart.
