Scouting Ireland regret to inform all members, that from this point forward, all camping activities are prohibited.
This decision has not been taken lightly, and is after long protracted discussions with our Health and Safety consultants over the last few months.
We would hope to be able to to reverse this decision as soon as possible, but at this stage cannot anticipate when this will be.
In the meantime, we’d like to encourage all Sections and Troops to continue with their Scouting programme’s as much as possible. Some suggestions might be:
- Indoor accommodations in the various hostels available around the country. (Please remember to adhere to all the associations Safeguarding policies).
- Stay in your own Scout Den? Or others? (Assuming of course that they comply with fire safety regulations.)
- Plan overnight hikes? (Once you don’t plan on camping during the hike).
- Look out for cheap hotel deals?
We trust that you’ll bear with us during this difficult time. And remember, keep the OUT in SCOUTING.
Scouting Ireland – Larch Hill – 1st April 2018
That time is rolling around again – St. Patrick’s Day is on it’s way
In keeping with our traditions and involvement in the parish we will be attending two religious services on St. Patrick’s Day
11:00am Mass in St. Columbas Church & 11:00am Service in St. Lukes Church
We would like to ask as many of members as possible to attend one of these services. We will be assembling in the Scout Hall from 10:30 in full uniform.
Please let your section leader know by text or email that you can attend.
On St. Patricks morning we are holding our annual cake sale in the Scout Hall before and after the 11am religious services.
The parents & friends committee are organising this event and we are asking for our members (and their parents) to show your support by baking us a cake or two (or a batch of cakes) and bringing them to the hall at 10:00 on the morning so we can sell them and raise funds for our group.
Each year we have had tremendous support for this simple fundraiser and we hope it will continue this year.
This year the 6 Scouts that are going to the World Jamboree in 2019 will continue the Cake Sale for the Saturday evening and Sunday Masses to raise money towards their Jamboree Fees so we’d encourage mass goers hopefully to support these efforts also

We are NOW accepting payments through www.easypaymentsplus.com for the Scouting year 2017/2018
We had kept the registration fee the same for approx. 5 years and due to increasing costs it was agreed at our last Group Council that we need to make a modest increase of €10 per child.
- Registration for 2017/18 will be as follows:
This covers National Registration, Insurance and building costs (lighting, heating etc.)
- €140 for one Scout
- €260 for two siblings
- €360 for three siblings
Our preferred method of payment is through the Easy Payment System, we have made an adjustment so that the EPP fees will be paid by the Group so there is NO CHARGE for you to use this system anymore.
If you wish to pay in cash or by cheque we look forward to see you this Sunday 3rd September 7-8PM

Following the announcement on May 18th last that Conor Crowley would step down over the summer months the Group Council tonight unanimously agreed that Eoin Field would be nominated for the position of Group Leader of the Douglas & St. FinBarres Scout Group and his details will now be forwarded to the National Commissioner (Adult Resources) of Scouting Ireland for approval.
Eoin joined the leadership team when he returned to Scouting after a few years break, to what was then the Douglas Scout Group, as an assistant Beaver Scout Leader back in 2012. He moved to Cubs after a year where he has run the 6th Cork Cub Scout pack ever since and was appointed Deputy Group Leader in 2016.
Eoin also is currently part of the team that is assisting the Scout Phoenix Patrol with their training and preparation for the National Campcraft Competition this weekend in Stormont Castle.
Coming from a Scouting background Eoin was a member of Blarney Cubs, Scouts & Ventures until he took a break at the age of 25. His father Pat Field is a former Unit Leader for Blarney are former Regional Commissioner. Eoins daughter Ella and son Jack are both members of the Group in Scouts and Cub Scouts.
The Group Council and the leadership team of all our sections wish him well in his new role and look forward to supporting him and helping him to lead Douglas & St. FinBarres into the future.
Hi all,
You can download a consent form that needs to be filled out for every youth member and handed back to their Leader immediately.
You can fill it in and print it off yourself and bring it down to the next meeting.
YiS,
Darran.
Hi All,
To keep things sensible this weekend, can we ask that all cars park on the left side of the car park at all times?
This will leave the right side for the coaches. It will make life easier for all – and more importantly, safer!!
In other words:

Thanks for your help and understanding!!
Hi All,
Flights for Gilwell 2017 have now been booked!
All will be revealed at a later date, but for now, all you need to know is that we’ll be leaving early on Sat 1st July and will be back again on the evening of Sat 15th July.
While the camp bookings are now “closed”, we will still accept people onto the list for a short while more, but IF THE FLIGHTS HAVE GONE UP IN PRICE, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THE INCREASE.
To be honest, we don’t expect them to go up too much, but you never know!!
Any questions, just get back to us!!!
Enda.
