Douglas & St. FinBarresScout Group – 2nd 6th 47th 93rd Cork

Dear Members & Parents,

Over the last week you will have received, per scout, a book of tickets for Scouting Irelands ’12 Days of Christmas’ draw. This is our only national fundraiser and with the exception of 10%, which we send to headquarters for administration costs, the Group receives the funds raised.

Over the last two/three years the leadership and Group Council of Douglas & St. FinBarres Scout Group have been working hard to upgrade the John Slye Scout Hall.

This has included the following;
· New covering on the flat roof
· New windows (front and back)
· New Fire Exit Doors & a disabled access ramp with protective railings
· New gas heating and boiler
· New kitchen
· New storage cupboards in the main hall
· Full repair of subsidence (insurance claim)
· Purchased a 20ft container for gear storage (sits in the community centre grounds)
· Upgrading of the electrical system within the hall

All of the above work has been paid for in full by means of our own resources, grants from Cork Co. Council and fundraising efforts during the year by our Parents & Friends Committee.

One major project remains; the upgrading of our toilets. Our existing layout was constructed in a time when only one female toilet was sufficient for a Scout hall and no separate leaders or disabled toilet facilities were needed. We propose to remodel to give us adequate facilities for the number of members using our Scout hall and to comply with regulations.

The project has been estimated at €40,000 so we are appealing to everyone associated with the Group to support the Parents & Friends Committee in their drive to raise the necessary funds.

If we can sell all of the tickets allocated throughout the Group we will have raised almost €10,000 which will have us well on the way!
