Do you know how far away it now is to Summer Camp??
90 Days!!!!!!!!!
Wow, where does time go!!
Anyhow, we’ve been busy behind the scenes planning. At this stage, we know the hostel we’re staying in & are working out sleeping plans.
We’re busy planning activities, canoeing, hiking, visiting Prage…… the list goes on!
What do YOU need to be doing at the moment?
The most important things you can do right now are:
- Make sure you have an up to date passport. Nothing else will do! You won’t be travelling with an ID card of any sort – it must be a passport.
- Apply for an EHIC card. This is vital if you were to need any emergency care while abroad. You can apply for one online at: https://www.sspcrs.ie/portal/ehic/ More info about the card can be gotten HERE.
- Talk to your leaders about any outstanding camp fees. We need to keep on top of them!
That’s about it. As ever, any of the Scouter team will be delighted to help answer any queries you might have.
Keep an eye here on the website – it’s where you get the news first!
Roll on August…. :-)
Douglas Group Fundraiser in February will be Ten Pin Bowling in the Planet in Blackpool on Sunday February 17th
We have two hour sessions booked for our Group, parents, friends and families are all invited to come along, play a game of bowling and support us in much needed fundraising.
Tickets will be €7 and we will talk about the selling of these tonight at the parents meeting.
More details will be available soon so tell your mates! Keep the date!
Hi All,
Just a quick post to update you on our Travel Arrangements for camp 2013…..
Due to the great numbers booked in, it has been possible for us to travel by coach to camp. This will enable us to have our own transport at camp with us, and the adventure of traveling across Europe to get there!
While all details can still change, it looks like the arrangements for travel will be (ROUGHLY!):
=> Depart John Slye Scout Hall (Douglas) at 2pm on Saturday 3rd August 2013.
=> Return to the John Slye Scout Hall at about 5pm again, 2 weeks later – Saturday 17th August 2013.
The route we will be taking looks LIKELY to be traveling to Rosslare, and then sailing from Rosslare to Cherbourg (and the same, return). While a bit more expensive, this cuts down on some of the coach time & should make the experience more comfortable & enjoyable for all!
At the risk of repeating myself (again) the above could change. We’re still looking at various options, but it seems the most likely solution now.
Roll on August… :-)
Enda.
Hi All,
Just a quick update regarding Summer Camp.
We have been working hard in the background, sorting out a few of the options that we have. At this stage, we have confirmed our hostel and also are 99% confirmed on our travel arrangements!! We will post about these as soon as we’re 100% happy.
Regarding travel, at this stage our stated dates still seem on target. (Departing Cork on Saturday 3rd August, returning to Cork on Friday 16th August).
Regarding Price, it seems that the suggested price of €700 is the price camp will be. (This is less whatever you earned from the 12 days of Christmas tickets promotion).
Finally, what should YOU do now?
- Remember that you need to have paid a FURTHER €150 by the FIRST meeting in January (so at this stage, you will have paid at least €200 in total).
- You will need an EHIC card. This is a European Health Insurance Card. You may already have one. It will look like:
If you don’t have one, you can apply for one at: ONLINE EHIC APPLICATION
- You can check your passport is in order. Please make sure that you have a passport, IN DATE, in your own name! If your passport is NOT an Irish or EU issued passport, please let us know as we’ll need to check it out in advance.
That’s about it so far!
Keep checking here. We’re looking forward to posting more information on the website as and when we can.
Any thoughts or queries? Please talk to any of the leaders or post them here!
Regards,
Enda.
