Starting on Monday night, October 22nd, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Ventures and Rovers will receive their initial book of tickets for the Twelve Days of Christmas Draw 2012.

This is an opportunity for our Group to raise some much needed funds through the proceeds of this draw. Each Beaver Scout, Cub Scout, Scout, Venture Scout and Rover will be allocated a book of tickets to sell.

The tickets are €2 each and are sold in books of 20 tickets.

Please note that ALL tickets must be returned to your section leader on or by the deadline to ensure that purchased tickets (or buyers) are given the opportunity of being entered into the draw. Unsold tickets must also be returned to the section leader to be handed back to the National Office as failure to do this is a violation of the terms of Scouting Irelands Lottery License.

We are required to have all tickets (sold or unsold) back to National Office by Friday December 7th so we are asking that all Douglas Scout members have their tickets back to their section leader no later than Friday November 30th

100% of the proceeds of the tickets sold go to the Group so this is an excellent opportunity to raise much needed funds. In the case of the Scouts and Ventures going on Camp to Karlstejn, Czech Republic in August 2013, any 2nd and subsequent books of tickets sold will go towards their fee for Camp as was announced at the Camp 2013 Parents Information night on Wednesday 17th last.

If as a parent, or group of parents, you are ever willing to take on a fund raising project for our Group in the next few months please speak with a section leader and we will give you what support we can.

Like all voluntary organisations we rely on the most generous good will of our members, friends and families as national funds dry up. In our particular case we have another more serious problem with the boiler in our Scout hall again and the problems with our roof have continued and need our attention urgently.

Thank you for taking the time in reading this and good luck with selling the tickets and good luck to anyone who buys a ticket, it would be nice to read of a winner that we know!!

Yours In Scouting,

Conor Crowley

Summer Camp 2013 Information…

Firstly – huge thanks to everyone who came to the info meeting last night.  It was a great turnout.

Anyhow – the information you’re looking for!

Summer Camp 2013 will be:

  • Dates – Saturday 3rd August to Friday 16th August
  • Location  – Karlstejn – about 25kms outside Prague, Czech Republic.
  • Open to – Everyone in Scouts, Ventures or Rovers
  • Price – To be confirmed, but we anticipate it will be a maximum of €700

Karlstejn seems to be a really lovely spot (as does all of Prague).  Karlstejn’s most famous landmark is it’s castle – more info can be seen at: http://www.hradkarlstejn.cz/en/

This year we will NOT be camping as we usually do.  We will be staying in a private hostel (no one else there – 100% our own private hostel).  This will allow a lot of convenience & easy living – allowing all the more time for great activities!

Travel arrangements are currently under discussion.  It seems likely that we’ll either fly from Dublin to Prague, or alternatively bring a coach from the Scout Hall directly to our chalet in Karlstejn.  The decision on this will be made in the next month or so – and will depend on the number of people traveling.

Huge range of activities available to us.  The ones we’re looking at right now include:

  • Mountain Biking
  • Overnight Canoe Trip
  • Rock Climbing
  • Orienteering
  • Rafting
  • High Ropes
  • Aqua Park
  • and lots lots more!!

What do you need to do now?

  • Let your leader know you’re planning on going
  • Get an initial deposit of €50 paid before the end of October
  • Dream of the great time you’ll have!

Camp chances like this one do NOT come around too often!  Get your name down now.

Regarding numbers, we feel we will have enough of capacity, but the hostel we’re staying in does have a limited number of beds – so if the demand is more than we’ve thought, it will be first come, first served.

Keep an eye on the website – we’ll be updating regularly.

Regards,

Enda.
