First of all we’re thrilled with the response to Camp 2019 for our Scouts and Venture Scouts. We have reached our initial limit and therefore any additional people signing up will go on a waiting list.

We cannot however promise those on the waiting list a space at this moment in time but we promise we will look at alternative options and let you know.

For everyone who has put their name down on the list (by registering only via the online form available on previous post about Camp 2019) a deposit of €50 is now due and should be paid before September 21st via Easypaymentsplus.com

This deposit is non refundable (unless you are on the waiting list and we are unable to accommodate you).

We then have a schedule of further payments due throughout the next few months as follows:

1. Further €150 due by 16th November (€200 paid in total)
2. Further €200 due by 11th January (€400 paid in total)
3. Further €200 due by 8th March (€600 paid in total)
4. Further €200 due by 3rd May (€800 paid in total)
5. Final €100 due by 7th June (€900 paid in total)

The coach for Camp 2019 is now full!

PLEASE don’t panic if you’d like to go to Adelboden with us.  Fill in the form here as before.  This form will now add your name to the waiting list.  Any places that come free on the coach, will be offered to people strictly in the order that they were added to the waiting list.

As we’ve said (many times!) before, we’ll try to find a way to get everyone to camp that wants to go there.  While there are no guarantees, we’ll really try to make this happen.  The more the merrier!

Also re numbers on the bus – we’re now down to about 10 places left.  As mentioned previously, if you haven’t already put your name down, please do so now.  Once we’re full, we’ll have a waiting list & see what we can do.  But only the first bus load is guaranteed!!

IF we fill the coach (and it would seem very likely), we’ll add everyone else to a waiting list.  Anyone on that list, we’ll try to arrange something – but NO GUARANTEES!!

Hi All,

Great News!  We’re now in a position to announce our Camp for Summer 2019!   Next year, our camp will be in Adelboden, Switzerland!

Adelboden is a village high in the Swiss Alps.  It’s about 30km from Kandersteg International Scout Centre – which of course we’ll be visiting!

There will be a HUGE range of really good activities available.  While not arranged or booked yet, among the possibilities are:

• Absiling
• Boat Trips
• Canyoning
• Chairlifts & Cable Cars
• Dry Toboggan Run
• Guided Mountain Hikes – Snow & Ice!
• Overnight Mountain Expeditions
• Swimming
• White Water Rafting…….

The list goes on and on!

Accommodation

We’re planning on staying in a JEKA Hostel – as we have done before in Prague & Austria.  We found these great for use every few years.  Main benefits are:

• No camping gear to bring with us
• No worries if there was a storm during our time.  (In this area of Switzerland, we’ve found that the weather is generally great, but also the possibility of a decent storm!)
• Food is supplied every day for us.
• It’s our own, private Hostel.  No other groups or people will be staying there.

Travel

As we’ve done before, we’re planning on travelling by luxury coach.The benefits of this mean that we have our own coach available to us while we’re in the area.  It add’s to the fun of the journey.  Most importantly, it’s a significant cost saving on what it would cost us to fly.

Dates

Not confirmed yet, but it’s highly likely that we’ll be away for about 12 days, in July.  Likely to be mid July.  We’ll confirm these as soon as they’re tied down.

Cost

We anticipate the cost of the trip to be €900.  Switzerland is expensive to go to & for activities etc, so it’s a significant achievement to keep the price to this!   We will have fundraising during the year, to enable us to manage this.

What’s next?

The first thing you need to do is express your interest.  The ONLY place to do this is on the form on this website!

PLEASE note that there will be a limit on the number of people who can go on this camp.  (Remember, the number of seats on a coach is limited!).   So get your name down fast if interested.

Payment structure

We will have a payment structure in place.  A €50 non refundable deposit will be needed by 15th September to secure your place.

After this, we’ll have a schedule of payments in place.  These will not be optional – they’re there to make everybody’s life easier in the long run!   The fact that we’ve most of a year until this camp, will mean that these payments should not be too onerous.

Uniform Policy: Necker + comfortable traveling clothes

Musical Instruments: If a scout plays a musical instrument they are welcome to bring it along, but we won’t have space for a piano!

Scouts going are meeting in the scout hall Wednesday evening before travelling @ 7pm, to organise their basic food supplies.

Food: Ensure scouts have good lunch before travelling and bring along a good filling snack + water to have when we arrive.

Gear List
All scout gear must be clearly labelled and packed in/on a single rucksack, lined with a big bin bag. It’s important that your scout can carry their full rucksack.
• Hiking boots
• Waterproof coat and pull-ups
• Small back pack for daily use.
• Wash gear + small towel
• Cup
• Plate
• Bowl
• Knife
• Fork
• Spoon
• J-cloth
• Tea-towel
• Torch + spare batteries
• Personal 1st aid kit – including sun lotion and insect repellent
• PJs
• Sleeping bag
• Ground matt
• Travel pillow – NOT a regular pillow

  …Socks, underwear, trousers or trackies + T-shirts
• Warm hoody
• Sun hat
• Warm hat & gloves
• Substantial water bottle or platypus – NOT small water bottles.

Electronic Device Policy: It is advised that scouts do not bring electronic devices, there will be no charge points available.

Now that we’re back, we will move on to photo’s. I know that a lot of you have taken many photos over the course of camp. So I would ask that they are sent to: seantaaffe@douglasscouts.ie This is so that they can be included in our montage of pics. This montage will be uploaded within the next 2 weeks, after the post-camp meeting. Details will follow in the coming days.

Scout Bank: It is proposed to have a Scout bank for the duration, details at the next meeting.

Visitors Day: Parents and family members can visit the site on Sunday 29th. It’s very important to let the leaders know in advance, ideally at the next meeting, so as we can organise site access for you.

Lunch snack for trip up: All travelling should pack a good lunch and something extra to keep them going until we get our evening meal prepped.

Scouts – Jambor Rí – Camp 2018

Ventures – Summer Challenge – Camp 2018

The Jambori trip is fast approaching, so, it’s important that the trip fees are brought up to date to enable us cover the camping, food and transport costs that are now due.

On your behalf the Group has already paid Scouting Ireland a sizeable deposit to hold your Scouts place and we now need your payments to cover the balances due.

The total cost is €395 and it was agreed to accept staged payments for the trip.

We suggest that you make payments as follows
• By 22nd April additional €135 per scout.
• By 6th May additional €135 per scout.
• By 31st May outstanding balance.

As usual the payment option is available on the Easy Payments System.

It’s a Scouting experience that shouldn’t be missed!

So, if your Scout has an interest in going but still isn’t sure, drop into your leader for a chat about it as there are a few spaces still available.
