Reason: Map reading, compass work, bearings and poor visibility navigation leap frog.
Note:
- Your scout must have a very good breakfast.
- This is challenging trek, so appropriate gear is of utmost importance.
- We will do a gear check before leaving the meeting point.
Hike Gear Must Haves
- Neckerchief
- Hiking boots – ground is uneven, so boots covering ankle are needed.
- Rain gear – Jacket with hood & water proof trousers
- Hiking trousers – No jeans or cotton tracksuits!
- Thermals / skins
- Warm clothes – Multi light layers are best
- Hat & Gloves
- Torch & spare batteries
- Buff / neck warmer – No scarves they just get wet and or lost
- Bivvy bag or large heavy duty refuse sack
- Whistle
- Food and Drink to bring:
Healthy packed lunch
Water – 1 ltr minimum
Snacks to have during hike.
- Change of clothes in seperate bag:
Shoes + warm hoody for after hike.
Can be left in leaders car boot.
If scout has these, also bring…
- 1st aid kit
- Compass
- Gaiters
- Walking poles

It is advised that scouts do not bring electronic devices. Douglas & St Finbarres Scout Group, its leaders and Scouting Ireland will not be held responsible for any electronic devices lost or damaged.
