Reason: Map reading, compass work, bearings and poor visibility navigation leap frog.

Note:

• Your scout must have a very good breakfast.
• This is challenging trek, so appropriate gear is of utmost importance.
• We will do a gear check before leaving the meeting point.

Hike Gear Must Haves

• Neckerchief
• Hiking boots – ground is uneven, so boots covering ankle are needed.
• Rain gear – Jacket with hood & water proof trousers
• Hiking trousers – No jeans or cotton tracksuits!
• Thermals / skins
• Warm clothes – Multi light layers are best
• Hat & Gloves
• Torch & spare batteries
• Buff / neck warmer – No scarves they just get wet and or lost
• Bivvy bag or large heavy duty refuse sack
• Whistle

• Food and Drink to bring:
  Healthy packed lunch
  Water – 1 ltr minimum
  Snacks to have during hike.

• Change of clothes in seperate bag:
  Shoes + warm hoody for after hike.
  Can be left in leaders car boot.

If scout has these, also bring…

Electronic Device Policy:

It is advised that scouts do not bring electronic devices. Douglas & 
St Finbarres Scout Group, its leaders and Scouting Ireland will not be held

This year paying for Summer Camp 2020 to Silver Cross Scout Centre in Swansea couldn’t be easier.

Scouts & Venture Scouts going must register through Easypaymentsplus and pay their deposit of €85 on or before December 1st

The Easypaymentsplus system will then automatically debit a further €85 from the credit or debit card used on the 2nd of each month in January 2020 until June 2020 when the full amount of €595 will have been paid

In light of recent reporting in the media, we wish to reiterate the following information:

• All of our adult scouters are fully Garda vetted.
• They have undergone Safeguarding and Child Protection training.  This training is in line with the NYCI (National Youth Council of Ireland).
• As many of the adults who wish to become Scouters in the group can attest – they are not allowed interact with our young people until their vetting is approved and they have completed the required training – which includes this Safeguarding/Child Protection training.

Tonight (13th November) we announced that Camp 2020 for our Scouts & Venture Scouts will be to Silver Cross Scout Campsite in Swansea.

Camp 2020 will take place from July 18th until August 1st

Camp 2020 will cost €595 per Scout

Easypaymentsplus payment has been activated; we require a deposit of €85 by December 1st and then on the 2nd of each month a further €85 will be paid until 2nd June 2020

As mentioned at the last meeting the section are going to Fota Scout Centre on the weekend of October 25th – 27th.

Scouts attending must have an activities consent form completed and returned to us and also have paid the annual registration.

Securing a place is subject to a non-refundable deposit of €20 and can be paid at the next meeting (9th October).

• Arrive: 6:30pm on Friday 25th October
• Depart: 3pm on Sunday 27th October

Cost:

• Cost is 50 euro per scout (including deposit). This will cover accommodation, food and programme for the weekend.
• The full amount is due on Wednesday the 16th of October.

Gear List:

• Full uniform to be worn on arrival – NO EXCEPTIONS
• Old/worn clothing is best to be used for this weekend
• Sleeping bag
• Bivvy bag
• Full raingear (jacket and leggings)
• Warm hat and gloves

With the new Scouting year comes the annual membership and registration fee, which covers national insurance, registration of each member with Scouting Ireland and the balance goes towards the ongoing upkeep of our hall and support of our Group.

Scouting Ireland increased their annual registration costs by €20 per member this year. The Group Council agreed not to pass this fully onto our own members instead an increase of €10 for this years membership will only apply.

The 2019/2020 fees are as follows:

€150 for one youth member
€280 for TWO youth members from the same family and
€390 for THREE youth members or more from the same family.

All membership fees are payable online using easypaymentsplus.com. There is NO charge or cost for using this service.

We ask that all payments of fees this year are completed by Sunday September 29th.

In addition to the membership fee, all members must have their activity consent form signed by a parent and submitted to their Scouter to allow them take part in any activity and remain at the weekly meetings.
